COOK COUNTY, Ill. (WLS) -- Immigration arrests were recently made at the Cook County Domestic Violence Courthouse.

The Public Defender's office confirmed to ABC7 Chicago that two people who showed up at the courthouse this week were taken into custody by federal agents.

ABC7 spoke with victims' advocates, who said they fear those arrests will make domestic violence survivors less likely to seek help.

In a statement, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle said, "survivors of domestic violence, and often their children, should never fear that the very courthouse meant to protect them is another place where their safety is at risk."
