TUSCALOOSA, Ala (WIAT) – Tuscaloosa County District Attorney Hays Webb is calling on local municipalities to help fund the DA’s office.

District attorney offices are state offices. However, funding received from the state accounts for less than a third of operational costs in Tuscaloosa County Webb said.

“When the state is not funding us and we are a local office dealing with local issues, I think the locals have to step up and help fix this,” Webb said

Most of the cases waiting for trial or a settlement are felony cases Webb said. There are about 4,000 of them. However, there are only five prosecutors in the DA’s office. If the Tuscaloosa County Commission, City of Northport and the City of Tuscaloosa could pull together $1.3 million, Webb could bring on more attorneys.
