BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) - September is blood cancer awareness month. There are more than 100 forms of blood cancer, according to Blood Cancer United.

Blood Cancer United is the new name for the national nonprofit The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The organization changed its name at the beginning of this month.

"It’s an unseen disease, it’s not like your typical, you have a tumor that you’re getting checked out or something that shows up on a scan. It starts with fevers a lot of the time, so that is something to always be aware about, and there are a few other signs and symptoms that you can look up online and really see what those are.
