The highly anticipated NFL season opener between the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys at Lincoln Financial Field resumed at 11:30 p.m. Thursday after a severe weather suspension.

With 4:44 remaining in the third quarter and the Eagles leading 24–20, officials halted play following a severe thunderstorm warning issued by the National Weather Service. The league expects play to resume after passing storms clear and players complete a standard 10-minute warm-up.

Fans were asked to evacuate the stands for their safety as conditions deteriorated. Once play resumes, the Eagles will retain possession at their own 16-yard line.
