EAST MOLINE, Ill. (KWQC) - Data from East Moline’s traffic cameras may have been shared with U.S. Border Protection after a traffic camera company violated Illinois law, the chief said.
Flock Safety, which operates the largest license plate camera system in the U.S., has fallen under scrutiny from Illinois for sharing data and violating a state law.
License plate cameras take photos of vehicles and license plates. The data is logged and can be shared with other police departments as a tool to catch vehicles involved in crimes.
After an audit, Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias claimed Flock Safety broke state law by sharing data with U.S. Border Protection.
