TAOS, N.M. (KRQE) – It's one of New Mexico's most beautiful landmarks, but it also carries a somber truth.

Taos County Sheriff Steve Miera said the Taos Gorge bridge is the site of two to three suicides a year. The most recent one happened on Monday. "My heart literally drops," said Sheriff Miera. "I know that there's going to be a family that's missing a family member. I feel for the victim for what they must've been going through. Also, as the head of the agency whose responsible for the recovery of these individuals, the safety of the deputies who go down to conduct these recoveries in a sense, everything."
