BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - The Birmingham community is reeling after the tragic death of 82-year-old Aldorthia Burrell, who was shot and killed Wednesday night while sitting on her front porch .

Police say she was struck by a stray bullet, a random act of violence that has left neighbors, friends and her church family devastated.

Burrell lived for years in her home on Balsam Avenue SW in West Birmingham. Neighbors described her as a kind, quiet woman who kept to herself and never caused trouble.

Her pastor, the Rev. Damian Littlejohn of Bryant Chapel AME Church, said Burrell’s loss is being felt deeply within the congregation and beyond. He had been her pastor for the past 16 years, but said she had been a faithful member of the church for most of her life. He recalled how she wo
