EVANSVILLE, Ind. — A juvenile was killed Thursday afternoon in Evansville in what police are calling an accidental shooting.

According to a release from the Evansville Police Department , around 3:40 p.m. on Sept. 4, officers were called to the 800 block of East Cherry Street on a report of shots being fired in the area.

The initial 911 caller indicated that a juvenile had been shot. When officers arrived on scene, they found a juvenile male with gunshot injuries. However, he was later pronounced dead.

After an initial investigation, police learned that the victim was accidentally shot by another juvenile who was handling a gun that they thought was unloaded.
