A pair of criminals seemed more slow and stupid than fast and furious a little after after midnight at a gas station just north of town. In a Facebook post, Chaves County Undersheriff Charles Yslas stated that at approximately 12:30 a.m. deputies responded to an attempted robbery at an Allsup's Convenience Store, located at 5500 N. Main Street. Deputies discovered that at least two individuals attempted to remove the ATM from inside the store. It was further learned that the individuals attempted to drive a black Hummer through the wall of the store, where the ATM is located. After failing to even come close to busting through the wall, the individuals exited the Hummer, entered the store and attempted to remove the ATM. The store is open 24/7.
