The vice chair of the Salem School Board was arrested and charged with DWI following a crash on Saturday.

Teresa E. Sizemore, who has been on the school board since 2021, was traveling south on Interstate 81 when she hit the guardrail and overturned around mile marker 134.7, according to court documents. A trooper from the Virginia State Police was called to the scene at 3:55 p.m.

Sizemore was being treated by EMS when the trooper arrived on scene. He noted that Sizemore had glassy eyes, slurred speech and a “strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from her person,” according to court documents. She was submitted to a preliminary breath test.

Authorities also found an empty bottle of white wine in the backseat of the vehicle.
