Public health agencies say a San Francisco cat got sick with bird flu after eating raw cat food.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is alerting pet owners that it has detected bird flu contamination in certain batches of a product called “RAWR Raw Cat Food Chicken Eats” and that there appears to be a link to a San Francisco cat that became ill.

San Francisco’s Department of Public Health told NBC Bay Area on July 17 that it learned a cat tested positive for bird flu and was suffering breathing and brain difficulties.

The FDA says that cat has since been euthanized, but that it ate the RAWR product before getting sick.
