Aldi has issued an apology to its rival, fellow budget supermarket Lidl, after the latter was declared Which's cheapest supermarket for the month of July. Prior to this, the title had gone to Aldi for some 20 consecutive months, and for August 2025, Aldi has again taken the top spot. ‌

In social media posts issued on Thursday, September 4, Aldi has shared a cheeky apology. The supermarket said: "Apparently we’ve got some apologising to do. Lidl, we’re really, actually, properly sorry. ‌

"We know winning Which? cheapest basket last month was the highlight of your year. Bet you even treated yourself to a slice of that f-tier caterpillar cake in celebration. ‌
