HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Kamehameha Schools has faced challenges to its admissions policy in the past. But a new attempt is coming from a conservative activist who’s already won challenges against Harvard and the University of North Carolina over their admissions plans.
The new website, KamehamehaNotFair.org, asks, “Is your child barred from Kamehameha Schools based on ancestry?”
The Virginia-based group “Students for Fair Admissions” is looking for plaintiffs to challenge the schools’ preference for Native Hawaiian students.
“This thing didn’t come out from someone in Hawaii who was aggrieved. It’s some scheme that’s been cooked up thousands of miles away that’s trying to change Hawaii,” said state Sen. Jarrett Keohokalole, who is co-chair of the legislature’s Native Hawaiian Caucus.
