MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A 4-year-old boy accidentally shot himself after finding a gun Tuesday night, according to the Memphis Police Department (MPD).
MPD said the shooting happened around 8:50 p.m. on Avon Road.
First responders rushed the boy to the hospital. Police said Wednesday morning that he was in stable condition.
MPD reminded all gun owners to properly store their weapons.
"Gun owners are encouraged to keep their firearms stored securely. Free gun locks are available at all stations to help secure your weapon," an MPD spokesperson said.
Police did not immediately announce any charges in the case.
