A little-known, dedicated covey of a capella singers – mostly retired women – quietly brings a welcome sense of peace through music to terminal Iowa City area residents and their families.

They are the Hawkeye Threshold Singers, born during the Covid pandemic and continuing their amazing selfless service today.

Families invite them to sing during the final hours or days when loved ones near the end of their time. And these singers feel deeply honored to do so.

“I cannot tell you what a privilege we feel it is to be at the bedside,” said Wellman resident Carol Hulseberg.

She and Carolyn Yoder, of Kalona, are eloquent spokespersons for the dozen or so members of this local group, one of 200 nationwide affiliates of the international Threshold Choir organization.
