Homeowner shoots at man trying to break into Winnetka home

A homeowner armed with a gun shot at a man who was attempting to break into a home in Winnetka, police said.

The intruder, who was not struck by the gunfire, was trying to enter the home in the 20000 block of Bassett Street in the San Fernando Valley community, authorities said.

The confrontation was reported in the 20000 block of Bassett Street.

Before the break-in attempt, police on patrol in the area stopped the man, who was riding a bicycle, for a vehicle code violation. The man reached for his waistband and ran off.

Police chased the man to the home on Bassett Street, where he attempted to break into the home, police said.
