LINCOLN, Neb. (WOWT) - On this day in 2011, the 1971 Cornhusker Championship Team was honored for its perfect season.

55 players gathered a Memorial Stadium to look back on the 40th anniversary.

That day, the players also learned that Sporting News Magazine named the 1971 Nebraska team the greatest of all time.

“Somebody said last night that off that team, 25 guys played in the NFL.”

The 1971 Cornhuskers bear the second, third, and fourth ranked teams in the country on the way to its second National Championship.
