HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Multiple apartment units were destroyed by a fire in southwest Houston on Thursday night, according to the fire department.

The Houston Fire Department said the fire happened at an apartment complex on Dumpfries and Black Sandpiper Drive at about 7 p.m.

Officials said while working to put the fire out, firefighters had trouble getting the pump on one of their firetrucks.

They haven't disclosed what the issue was, but they still managed to put the fire out without anyone being hurt.

"The fire kept spreading and spreading. All of a sudden, you could hear the glass break. I was like, 'Wow.' And you could see them, they were trying to push the people away, but there were so many people in the front," Debbie Meyers, a neighbor, said.
