Prater’s Mill improvements continue

Restoration work continues on the historic Prater’s Mill in Whitfield County.

The barn at Prater’s Mill was recently removed, after several assessments determined that the structure, built in 1935, could not be safely relocated or restored. It was not original to the property and was not part of the original Prater’s Mill.

Items of historic and community value from the barn were carefully wrapped, removed, and placed into storage for future use or display by the Prater’s Mill Foundation. Materials salvaged from the barn will continue to be used on the site.

Whitfield County says that a dedicated budget has been allocated to rehabilitate the historic mill building itself, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
