CHICAGO — The 54th annual 26th Street Mexican Independence Day Parade is still scheduled for Sept. 14 despite ongoing concerns over ICE.
Community organizers and the Little Village Chamber of Commerce announced the decision Friday morning in front of the Little Village arch to still hold the parade at Noon on Sunday, Sept. 14.
It runs until 3 p.m. and kicks off at the arch before making its way down 26th Street to Kostner.
The decision comes after El Grito being canceled in Grant Park and Mexican Independence events being canceled in North Chicago, Waukegan and West Chicago.
El Grito organizers recognized the festival can be seen as a "visible target" and determined the safety of the community must be top of mind.
