BUCHANAN COUNTY, Va. (WJHL) — Wildlife lovers can watch the elk of Southwest Virginia on a live camera provided by the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR).

The DWR announced on Friday that the eighth season of the Virginia Elk Cam has begun, with a view of the elk territory in Buchanan County. The camera is situated on reclaimed mine land and scans a field where elk can often be spotted.

The DWR stated in a news release that the best time to see the elk is in the early morning, evening and nighttime hours. The elk become more active during the day as the weather gets cooler.

The live camera also has audio, so viewers have the chance to hear the elk bugle during their breeding season, which runs through Octob
