Doctors and leaders at Ascension Alexian Brothers Hospital in Elk Grove Village held a town hall meeting Thursday night, taking questions from concerned community members as the hospital prepares to eliminate its labor and delivery units.

"We understand how significant this change is to our residents and families,” Mayor Craig Johnson said in a statement about the event. “The Village is committed to ensuring that the community’s voice is heard."

The meeting came months after the suburban hospital announced its plan to discontinue all labor and delivery services and close its obstetrics department at the facility, and instead consolidate those services approximately 10 miles away, at Ascension Saint Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates.
