AUSTIN, Texas — An innocent bystander has filed a civil lawsuit alleging she was permanently injured after a shooting that happened on Sixth Street in Downtown Austin between an armed man and Austin police.

According to court documents obtained by KVUE, the plaintiff claims Austin Police Department (APD) officers recklessly fired their weapons outside Soho Lounge, injuring bystanders, on Dec. 16, 2023.

Police said a male suspect tried to get inside the Sixth Street bar with a gun. The man pointed the gun in the direction of police and bystanders after he was approached by APD, which reportedly led to the shooting.
