SALEM, Ala. (WTVM) - An Opelika man is behind bars after allegedly killing his stepfather.

69-year-old James Barnett was found dead in Salem on Thursday by Lee County Sheriff deputies. 51-year-old Richard Huguley, who is the stepson of Barnett, is the murder suspect.

Huguley is being held in the Lee County Detention Center without bail, awaiting an Aniah’s Law hearing.

Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 500 block of Lee Road 126 in the Salem community of Lee County Thursday night after a 911 call of a person being dead.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they said they found the victim sitting in a chair with what appeared to be one gunshot wound to his forehead.

According to officials, investigators obtained evidence that led to the arrest of Huguley.
