COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Three people were charged after a motor vehicle theft investigation on Thursday, police say.

According to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), officers responded to the area of East Costilla Street and South Nevada Avenue after a stolen 2004 red Hyundai Elantra was found.

Detectives conducted surveillance on the vehicle and identified the driver as Steven Russel, 39, and later identified the passenger as Lee Gilbert, 39.

After the two left a business in the 200 block of North Chelton Road, Police saw Gilbert driving the Hyundai.

Officers tried to stop this vehicle in the area of Pikes Peak Avenue and North Circle Drive with a marked police unit; however, they say Gilbert fled.
