PERSHING COUNTY, Nev. (KOLO) - The Bureau of Land Management is evaluating how wild horses and burros are managed in a portion of Pershing County.
The area being evaluated is known as the Blue Wing Complex and is located around 65 miles northeast of Reno and span nearly 1.2 million acres.
The area includes the Blue Wing Mountains, the Kamma Mountains, Lava Beds, Seven Troughs, and the Shawave Mountains.
BLM says their assessment will analyze the direct, indirect, and cumulative effects of implementing the herd management area plan, including gathers, fertility control and water source development.
“The plan includes a range of options for long-term management of wild horses and burros while maintaining the population within the appropriate management level over multiple years,” said
