Officials in Donald Trump 's administration have responded after U.S. employers added just 22,000 jobs last month as the labor market continued to cool due to uncertainty over the president's economic policies.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said, in part, in an interview with CNBC on Friday, "[It] will get better because you'll take out the people who are just trying to create noise against the president."

He added, "You look at the unemployment rate numbers today, wait until a year from now. Wow, it will be amazing numbers ... the Donald Trump economy is just beginning."

Speaking to reporters, Trump economic adviser Kevin Hassett said the jobs report today had "a little bit of a disappointing number," but he expects revisions.
