Welcome to Week in Iowa.
Iowa's election cycle had no issue jumping right back into the swing of things after a holiday weekend.
On Tuesday, political dominoes toppled in the U.S. Senate race after Republican Sen. Joni Ernst announced she will not run for reelection in 2026.
Later that afternoon, Iowa Republican U.S. Rep. Ashley Hinson backed out of her reelection bid for the 2nd Congressional District and jumped into the Senate race to fill Ernst's seat.
And if things weren't interesting enough, Ernst and Gov. Kim Reynolds deciding not to run for reelection makes it the first time in 58 years that Iowa will see open races for both governor and U.S. Senate.
