MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) - Vermonters are counting their lucky numbers in anticipation of Saturday’s near-record Powerball jackpot drawing.
The $1.8 billion jackpot after taxes would come to $770 million for the lucky winner.
Officials say ticket sales have nearly doubled over the last week. As of Wednesday, that breaks down to about $656,000 heading to the Education Fund.
If a Vermonter were to defy the 1 in 292.2 million odds, the state would keep a six percent cut.
“We’re hoping that a Vermonter wins the Powerball this Saturday because that would translate to a $46 million windfall to the state,” said Vermont Liquor and Lottery Commissioner Wendy Knight.
The next Powerball drawing is Saturday night at 11 p.m. on WCAX.
