The South Dakota Board of Technical Education and Southeast Technical College leaders will make a pitch to Gov. Larry Rhoden and the Bureau of Finance and Management on Sept. 10 to consider one-time funding of $8 million for a new James Abdnor Center for Advanced Manufacturing at STC.

SDBOTE and Lake Area Technical College leaders will also ask the state for $3 million in one-time funds to renovate its Student Center on campus. LATC would invest $1 million from its general fund for the renovations.

The name for the new STC building was approved by the Sioux Falls School District Board of Education on Sept. 3 and is in honor of former U.S. Sen. James Abdnor from South Dakota, who mentored U.S. Sen. John Thune.
