The UK's Emergency Alert system is being tested nationwide this weekend, with an alarm set to be sent to millions of devices across the country. ‌

The government's goal is to make sure the system works reliably and can effectively alert people during real emergencies. This isn't the first trial - the system was tested nationwide in April 2023 and has since been used five times in response to emergencies, including Storm Darragh in December 2024, which brought dangerous gusts of wind to various parts of the UK. ‌

Back when the alert was tested in 2023, some mobile phones on the Three network did not receive the alert. After this the government pledged to fix the issue ensuring that every mobile phone in the UK gets the alert, the Mirror reports. ‌
