The B.C. government has appointed a special mediator to the nearly seven-month-long transit dispute between striking transit workers in the Cowichan Valley and Transdev Canada, the company contracted by BC Transit to run operations in the area.

The strike began on Feb. 8, leaving locals without public transportation for more than 200 days, making it the longest transit strike in B.C. history.

On Friday, special mediator Vince Ready was appointed by B.C. Labour Minister Jennifer Whiteside to work with both parties in an effort to reach a settlement.

Ready has worked in labour relations since 1965, and over the years has garnered a reputation in labour relations as the closer in unsuccessful negotiations. Since starting his private practice in the late 80s, Ready has mediated or arbitrate
