McAllen’s new voice once spoke for the border. Now, she will be speaking for City Hall.

Wednesday, the city of McAllen announced the appointment of Irma Chapa as its new director of public information.

Chapa brings three decades of experience in strategic communications, public affairs and media relations to her new office, where she will be tasked with ensuring that residents remain informed, connected and engaged with their local government.

Her responsibilities will include overseeing all city communications, media relations, public outreach and digital engagement strategies.

For 14 years, Chapa served as director of strategic communications for the U.S. Border Patrol at both the national level and in the Rio Grande Valley Sector.
