RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Intercepting fake IDs before they reach the barstools — that, along with preventing underage drinking, were the central goals of "Operation Dry Start."
The joint initiative in Glenwood South, one of Raleigh's busiest nightlife hotspots, was carried out by NC's Alcohol Law Enforcement Division with help from the Raleigh Police Department.
In just three and a half hours on Thursday night, from 9 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., officers checked approximately 1,100 driver's licenses. From those checks: • 23 fraudulent driver's licenses were seized • 34 criminal citations issued • 46 total criminal charges filed • 1 charge of carrying a concealed weapon • 1 civil ABC violation
