DETROIT LAKES — The sentencing hearing for a former Minnesota senator convicted of two counts of felony burglary has been delayed.

The sentencing of former Minnesota Sen. Nicole Mitchell, DFL-Woodbury, was pushed back to Sept. 23 due to one of her attorneys getting sick, according to court documents. The original sentencing date was set for Wednesday, Sept. 10.

In a court order filed on Friday, Sept. 5, District Judge Michael Fritz granted Mitchell’s request to delay the sentencing hearing. Court documents say attorney Dane DeKrey “is suffering from a short-term illness which precludes him from being able to sufficiently prepare in time for the sentencing hearing.”
