A local program that helps vulnerable youth in the community could be forced to shut down as a result of funding cuts.
According to the organization’s executive director, Rachel Burns, RNJ Youth Services’ Connections Program is getting its funding cut off by the Ontario Ministry of Education.

“We were notified in July that the Ministry of Education would not be renewing our funding for the 2025-2026 fiscal year, so they gave us virtually no advance notice,” said Burns. “We were completely blindsided by this. It’s left us in a very tough spot given that we do not have a lot of alternative funding sources.”
Burns said that, in addition to the short notice, the ministry did not give any reason as to why the funding has been cut.
