MOUNT VERNON, Ind. (WFIE) - Mount Vernon Police Department say 9 children and 6 animals were taken from a urine and feces-covered home.
Officials say they were called to a home in the 400 block of East 5th Street about the number of animals living there.
They say officers were allowed in by 48-year-old David Harner and 29-year-old Terri Harner.
Upon entering, police say the smell was “overwhelming,” and an officer recalled having to step over multiple piles of animal feces and puddles of urine.
They say piles of trash, including soiled diapers and animal food, were spread throughout the house.
A baby bottle was also found with several cockroaches and bugs inside.
The children and animals removed from the home by the Indiana Department of Child Services and Mount Vernon Animal Control
