MYRTLE CREEK, Ore. - The Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA) is actively responding to a lightning storm that struck early Friday morning, according to forest officials.

According to DFPA, 48 lightning strikes were recorded on Sept. 5 across lands under their protection. DFPA crews have responded to four smoke investigations, confirming two fires.

The Fate Creek Fire, located about a mile south of the 12000 block of South Myrtle Road, is currently being attacked by DFPA resources. The fire is estimated at 1.5 acres and poses no threat to structures. Ground and air resources have subdued the fire's forward progress, and firefighters have encircled the perimeter with a hose lay.
