SARTELL — DNA testing confirmed the human remains found in the 1960s-era car in the Mississippi River in August belong to Roy George Benn, according to a Benton County Sheriff’s Office news release.

The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office identified Benn on Sept. 4, and it will continue to investigate Benn’s cause of death, according to the release.

Benn, 59, was last seen on Sept. 25, 1967, around 4 a.m. in a cafe in Sartell, Minnesota, according to the news release.

The Stearns-Benton County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team found the metallic blue 1963 Buick Electra, which was later confirmed to be registered to Benn, on Wednesday, Aug. 13, near Riverside Avenue in Sartell.
