A former Central Michigan baseball player is suing the school and two coaches, alleging he was struck so hard in the chest by the team's pitching coach before a game that he was left with bruises. The player also is alleging the school's administration failed to act on his complaint, and that he was retaliated against after reporting the alleged assault to Central Michigan's athletic director.

An attorney for Dean Brown, a right-handed pitcher from Ohio who has since transferred to a junior college to continue playing baseball, filed the lawsuit in federal court last month.

Attorneys for Central Michigan haven't yet provided an official response to Brown's lawsuit. A status conference is scheduled to take place in the coming days, Brown's attorney said.
