VANDERBURGH COUNTY, Ind (WEHT) - Recent gun violence across the United States sparks a group of students at the University of Southern Indiana to protest.

The students took part in a nationwide protest through Students Demand Action.

Organizers hope to start important conversations and have their voice heard by representatives at the state level. Organizers say they're taking a stand against increasing violence calling the issue a "nationwide epidemic".

This comes on the heels of a mass shooting at a catholic school in Minneapolis where two children died and 21 others were injured.

"We're frustrated that children are dying," says student Cade Smithson. "Just yesterday we say a male juvenile die downtown. 3-year-old Jay Carter passed away June 7th because he got ahold of his dad's gun.
