GULFPORT, Miss. (WLOX) — September is National Hunger Action Month, and Walmart associates spent Friday serving meals at Feed My Sheep in Gulfport.

The soup kitchen serves between 550 and 600 meals a day, with more than half delivered to elderly, homebound and disabled residents.

Executive Director David Leon said Walmart is one of the organization’s key partners, providing both donations and volunteers.

“We go out there three days a week to a couple different Walmart neighborhood markets and pick up donated food,” Leon said. “Several of their associates even drive home delivery routes on their days off, using their own vehicles and gas.”
