Preschoolers at the Santa Maria Valley YMCA can now step through the doors of a large custom-built playhouse and into a world of imagination.

Gibby's House, named after donors Mike and Marla Gibson, followed a winding path to its home at the Y — it was built by students at the Mark Richardson CTE Center — that involved multiple owners, non-profit collaboration and generosity.

The playhouse, painted in tones of harvest gold and ivory, was unveiled during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Aug. 29.

Students at the CTE Center crafted the colorful 8.5- by 10.5-foot structure as part of a construction trades program. The playhouse was originally purchased during an auction by Glenn Morris, board chair of the nonprofit CALM .
