RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — A 52-year-old man is in custody after being pulled out of a car following a police chase that ended in front of a Richland County middle school.
The Richland County Sheriff's Department said that the incident began when a deputy noticed a vehicle with defective brake lights near Middle and Roof streets. The deputy attempted to stop the driver, but the vehicle failed to stop, and the pursuit ensued, lasting approximately 10 minutes.
Deputies said the suspect began weaving through traffic and disregarding traffic lights and stop signs in the area. The crash ended in the 2700 block of Decker Boulevard when deputies boxed the vehicle in. Authorities said the driver attempted to drive through deputies' vehicles after being stopped and barricaded himself inside the vehi
