As the first workweek of September concluded on Friday, it seemed in the Washington area that the new month was recalling the old, flaunting its connections to August with a bit of heat and a helping of humidity, both displayed amid a smudge of haze.
Temperatures reached 90 degrees or came very close. In the District, the official high temperature as of 5 p.m. was 89. This was five degrees above average, and the highest reading here in more than two weeks.
Highs in the 90s had not been measured officially in the capital since Aug. 17.
