DOTHAN, Ala (WDHN) -- Alabamians are scrambling to the state line for a Powerball ticket after the jackpot raised to the second-highest in history.
Cars have been almost overflowing the parking lot at Lotto Discount Liquors, just over the Alabama-Florida state line.
"We have seen some new faces, we've seen a lot of people come in looking for that dream, and I hope a lot of people get it," said Lotto Discount Liquors Supervisor Avis Peterson. "They have been buying multiplays, and I recommend it with the jackpot being so high."
The soaring $1.8 billion jackpot is tempting residents from Dothan to press their luck as Alabama is still one of five states without a lottery.
"Just a skip hop and a jump, they should have had it, but I think it's coming soon," said Alabama woman Kimmie Mathis.
