President Donald Trump has renamed the Department of Defence as the Department of War, in anticipated move aimed at projecting American military toughness around the globe.

The signing of the executive order took place in the Oval Office of the White House on Friday, September 5.

Mr Trump said: “It’s a much more appropriate name, especially in light of where the world is right now," and he added that the previous name was “woke”.

In a post shared on X, formerly Twitter , the newly named Department of War shared a video with the caption: "WE ARE THE WAR DEPARTMENT."
