The woman accused of killing her 6-year-old adopted daughter, Isabella Kalua, aka Ariel Sellers, in 2021 was denied bail.
Circuit Judge Paul Wong heard continuing arguments in court from Lehua Kalua’s court-appointed attorney, Emlyn Higa and the state on the issue of bail.
The state had represented that Lehua Kalua poses a threat to the safety of the state’s minor witnesses, specifically the oldest adopted child of the Kaluas’ children, who gave testimony before the grand jury.
Deputy Prosecutor Tiffany Kaeo raised the issue at a previous hearing on the matter of setting bail regarding family court matters, which are confidential.
Higa told the judge that he sought an order through her family court lawyer, who filed an emergency motion to issue a no-contact order by the family court.
