Detroit — On Friday night at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut, George Blaha was the first of five honorees to receive the 2025 Curt Gowdy Electronic Media Award by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. The Curt Gowdy Media Award is a prestigious honor bestowed upon members of the print, electronic and digital media whose efforts have made significant contributions to the game of basketball.

"To be honored with the Hall of Fame's Curt Gowdy Award is a dream come true for a Detroit-born guy who grew up in central Iowa and in northern Michigan, and wanted to be a play-by-play announcer from the time he was nine or 10 years old," Blaha said during his acceptance speech. "I was certain that life in the play-by-play lane would be exciting and rewarding — it's been that and a lot more."
