LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The Fayette County Public School (FCPS) Board heard from community members about the district’s projected $16M shortfall.
The public hearing comes ahead of the release of the district’s working budget.
There were multiple outbursts Friday night directed at Fayette County Schools Superintendent Dr. Demetrus Liggins. Including people calling for his and Board Chair Tyler Murphy’s resignation.
“If you speak out one more time, I will ask for you to be removed, thank you,” Dr. Liggins said.
Some of the people who spoke to the board worried that the district’s hiring freeze, in an effort to save money, would hurt students.
“We are currently overstaffed with para educators, actually,” Dr. Liggins said.
